"I got really sad with that result but happy by the impact...I train hard, and every round, my corner told me to be calm because I was winning. Once I was winning, I decided to not expose myself and enter into Lyoto’s game. If I got more aggressive, I would have entered into Lyoto’s game and taken unnecessary risks, just like all his previous opponents did. I used the right tactics and I will probably do the same in the rematch."

"When the fight was over, I talked with many people, including [UFC President] Dana White. Everybody said I won, except the three judges, but they’d rather give the win to Lyoto," Rua said. "It’s so bad to loose a battle like that for interest of other people."
...
"I was not aggressive enough? You just have to look at my face and his face after the fight...He didn’t kick me one single time. I just got some knee butts. He has a broken rib, a deep cut in his mouth and could not even walk after the fight. I hit him twice as much, but the UFC judges analyzed some different aspects that I don’t really understand. I’m very upset. Actually, I cannot consider my last fight a loss."

Very smart tactic by shogun, it was very interesting to see lyotos style failing him for the first time!

But it will be even more interesting to see how both of them will fair in the rematch...such anticipation!

Very classy, Rampage would have ripped the cage down and every door in the arena!

He is honesty and correct. It was the worst decision I've ever seen in any UFC match in history. The night was a bad night. Bad stoppage of Ben Rothwell and a beyond reasonable decision win for Machida. He looked insecure for the first time while it was Shoguns cage.

Take into account just how much that means! For the VERY FIRST time someone took Machida out of his game by leg kicks and hitting one after another. I saw the match and the only thing Machida managed to do at all was keep 2 or 3 takedown attempts away and win maybe 1 flurry. Otherwise it was 5 rounds of leg kicking and setting up leg kicks.

The real LHW champ. All the other 205ers will have a hard time getting past Rua.

Shogun gano la pelea claramente. Llevo l control y el peso d la pelea y conecto mas y mejores golpes. No hay q ser juez para analizar la pelea y saber quien a ganado. Esto no es ajedrez...

I think in the rematch Shogun should focus on punches in the clinch and Lyoto should be more aggressive.

It was a close fight guys. I think Shogun would have left with the belt if he turned his aggression up in the 4th and 5th rounds, but he played it to safe.

In my opinion, after watching the fight a couple times; Rua won the 1st by a hair, Machida definitely won the second, Rua won the 3rd, although I can understand why the judges gave it to Machida due to his explosive finish even though Rua actually landed the more effective strikes in that exchange, and the 4th and 5th were hands down Rua. I can't understand the people saying he should have been more aggressive. His approach is what won him the rounds he either won, or should have won. When you get too aggressive on a guy like Lyoto Machida, he knocks your head off. Shogun was unfortunately just a victim of bad judging and I don't think he should have changed anything.

Exactly....people say why wasn't Rua more aggressive, because he is not dumb! Lyoto is never aggressive, but wins decisions. Why is there a double standard? Look at all of Lyoto's other wins minus Silva and Evans, all counter striking, managed to win those! Rua was moving forward and landing his shots. What else can he do?
