How to Beat Lyoto Machida

Machida is now the champ, great!!! But I've discovered a chink in his armor.

This is a man who can do it all. The old stick and move, in his own flashy way. Counter striker, agressive striker, submission specialist, you name it he could probably do it. Now when he first burst on to the scene I was one of the many to say "this guy sucks!!", I thought he was scared of a fight, I wasn't as knowlegable as I am now in MMA. After a while I saw a guy with un limited potiental. Some of these fights he was in, I realized because he is unbeaten he can't fail, well I noticed a flaw.

Lets go back to UFC 76. He took on Kaz Nakumra. Great fight that went to distance like his previous two. There where little things I noticed. First off the clinch. When Machida and Nakumura locked up he was being hit alot. Next Kaz kept hitting him with the same left hook, and that was what led to the tie up. Now Machida did what he does best and out scroed him for the win, but that's when I relized he could be hit.

Next fight I noticed someting was aganist Tito Ortiz. I knew that Tito was going to lose, didn't know how but he was going to lose.First Tito was very agressive, he did good with kicks, Machida checked some and took some. Second was the pressure Tito was pressing on him. Don't know if anyone saw, but Tito had Machida's back against the cage a few times, but steped back out of frustration. Tito did good in the clinch as well, hitting him with body shots and what not and then made the mistake of trying to take Lyoto down and we saw what happened.

Last thing I noticed that Machida does alot is lean back while moving away. This has attributed to his elusivness. It works but he exposes himself. His body is out in the open and someone with good striking, like Rampage or Shogun could beat it down and break him down.

Machida's two future opponents create problems for the champ. Rampage is great power puncher who mixes things well. Shogun likes to kick and is good in the clinch. If some one can back Machida up, while throwing leg kick combonations and beating him in the clinch, we will have a new champion.

You forgot one thing. When Lyoto leans back, he also circles making it hard for him to be hit. When he does this he opens up his center line but he leaves himself room to throw hooks and roundhouse kicks but since he is circling his center line is less open. Throwing a kick at him during that time would actually be bad because the kick would be over shot and would leave this opponent open to a counter strike or the kick to be caught because it is taking longer to get there.

LYOTO did have little flaws in his game. but thats done and over he gets better with every fight and we all saw what he did to alvis and evans they couldent even touch him. thats because evan is good on his feet and on the ground and couldent do anythimg there is no one in ufc that can fight as good as lyoto. hes just to smaret has great timing and is very good in almost all positions. i saw shoguns going to sleep in the 2nd round or in the third this CHAMP is here to saty for a good while

I wouldn't count out Shogun. he's still one of the best there is. If his conditioning is there again then we'll see the kicks and agressiveness. Smart money says he'll play it the same as Chuck since Chuck has a karate background and is a counter striker, if he's agressive and forces Machida to throw first then he'll win.

shogun is good but lyoto is better. he will make shogun come after him and get shogun to trow first and then its lights out for shogun and chuck does have karate skills but he never used it

lyoto has patience, he will wait for a mistake, while he is waiting he will throw fakes, confuse the f**k out of fighters. he dominated rashad who was undefeated, he destroyed silva who was undefeated he beat the s**t out of tito no one can touch him, hopefully we will see anderson vs lyoto 1 day

machida isnt gonna lose to shogun
shogun's last fight wasnt impressive, he barely beat coleman, and barely beat liddell
shogun doesnt deserve much credit here like he did back in pride, hes been off for too long and his condition will continue to suck
machida would win 1st or 2nd round ko!

I wish no can be beaten, but no stays undefeated, Lyoto may not be beaten now. no one has figured him out, these are just little cracks I've seen and no one took advantage of them. impossible is an opinion, we will see.

Lloyoto keeps improving, these so called"Chinks" in his armor, are no longer there his key is his patience. He has the most incredible set of skills. But his mindset is one of a kind to have the patience to sit there figure out the other mans technique and counter strike with Perfection is an art people can think he's boring all they want but he truly is amazing maybe not to the casual fan but if you are a long time mma fan you understand what I'm saying.

I hear what you're saying about openings to strike against Machida. However, you forget a big part of his success is luring opponents in to counter punch. His pinpoint striking and knockout power is very hard for anyone to overcome. I see only someone who can take many serious punches and can deliver the same to Machida, as being able to beat him. Machida also knows the key strike points, such as the liver. Look what he put Tito down with -- a seemingly "tame" punch (or kick, I can't remember) and Tito fell down grabbing his side. I don't see anyone beating this guy anytime soon.

I understand what you're saying, but even improving fighters say they make mistakes. GSP said he made mistakes against Jon Fitch, but he was absolutly flawless. Lyoto is improving with his agressiveness but I saw these holes a long time a go. Lyoto FYI I'm not a casual fan, I train and watch for a few years now, a lot of people thought Liddell was unbeatable a long time a go but Rampage came in and shut that talk up, Some said Matt Hughes wastearing through the division and then GSP beat him. All fighters are beatable even Lyoto. No one can deny that fact. Lyoto is a great fighter, but in this sport any thing can happen. So say I don't know what I'm talking a bout or I'm crazy but it can happen.
