"It’s a very important acquisition to me. We need to have a base in everything we do in life, so I’m creating my base and I’m having a lot of fun. I’m very happy to learn a new martial art and I’m very satisfied to meet Master Tanaka, a legend in this sport"

Machida Effect?
written by scomar, October 07, 2009
Karate guys have been getting handled in MMA for the last 15+ years, now the current light heavy champ is undefeated and a karate guy so everyone is on board? Should be interesting to see where this goes.

karate guys have been handled in mma cuhz they arent masters of it...if mma especially is very hard to come by a fighter that has actually mastered every aspect of karate like machida. machida has a world class karate teacher [his dad]. its actually very hard to come by a fighter whos even mastered any martial arts...most of them have backgrounds and stuff but arent masters of it. the reason for this is because mma guys try to improve in all subjects not just 1. and even if they do master one...they usually short on something else...and in mma u cant be good in just 1 thing. because if you think about it...to get actually master any martial art...takes years and years of training...for example...ive studied with alot of master from different types of martial arts...and they are way too old to be fighting in mma once they actually mastered it...it would take a normal person about 30 years of training to get a 7th-9th dan in kyokushin karate...so its almost impossible for u to truly master more than 1 in a lifetime.
