Machida stuffed 1 takedown per round, that in the score cards = about a takedown. despite shoguns leg kick machida would land punches and he actully did land 2 more strikes than shogun because alot of shoguns kicks were awsnerd back. Watch the fight on mute and you'll understand. But I was shocked too over how it was scored because I wouldnt have ever thought that stuffing a takedown can make u lead points in a round if u were down by strikes.

i dont understand how it was only 48-47, it was more like a 50-48....The fight was probably rigged, unless shogun submitted machida or knocked him out he woulda be given the win. I didnt like how machida was tlaking to herb dean and the judges b4 the fight either.

This is BS. But I'm not amazed. The UFC has spend a HUGE amount of money to hype and promote Lyoto Machida. Of course they want him to stay champion for a while longer. I do not agree one bit with the decision. Shogun is a guy who always push the opponent and there is a reason it's rare to see his fight go decision.

I personally think fighters should be awarded for being aggresive instead of defensive since above all else that's a figghters job. If this "hogging for weird points" keeps going any further we won't have any Wanderlei Silva's or similar fighter left.

Shogun was: The Aggressor in this fight, he controlled the action, had "ring generalship", inflicted the most damaging blows, blocked/negated most of Machida's attacks and yet he loses the fight for not being able to "take Machida down"?!?! REALLY?!?!

I watched the fight on mute and I'll tell you this much, I'd rather be Shogun than Machida in that fight.

The fact is Rua did not do enough to win. Definitely not in the first three rounds, so I thought it was three rounds to two for machida. When the rematch happens, it is my feeling that Machida will destroy him.

He disabled Machida's ability to counter with countless kicks, and appeared dominant throughout. The one round Machida won(in my opinion) with his flurry at the end, still involved Shogun taking it to him. I dismiss this " you have to do a lot more than that to beat the champ" ideology. I think that the cards should be judged fairly regardless of who is the champ. Can you say at the end of this fight that Machida beat Shogun?? Nope you can't. If you can support your argument with no bias to the fact that he is the champ. It was a poor judgment bottom line.

I don't see any one could say that rua won the first three rounds. Possibly the fourth and for sure the fifth, but that still has machida 3 rnds to 2 in my mind. To say that the fight was rigged or bought is ridiculous and disrespectful to the champ. Machida WILL destroy rua in the rematch, if rua is lucky enough to get one.

The idea that the fight was fixed is silly in my opinion. They was just as much publicity for shogun as there was for the dragon, and the UFC had just as much to gain if Rua won. And who paid the judges, machida' dad, it does not seem like he is that type of guy.
In all seriousness, Rua made Lyoto look human and for that he deserves respect, he's a great fighter and made muay thai fighters proud, but I saw a Machida win last night. He definitely won by the skin of his teeth but still a win nonetheless.

I disagree with the decision, but when you are the opponent you can't leave it up the judges....Shogun pressed the action, but the Dragon is always falling back....it's frustrating to fight with a guy that is always on the defensive....I believe that machida will be a boring champion to watch in the long run.

I disagree with everyone thinking Rua hands down won. He didn't take the fight and was just as passive as Machida was in my opinion. I think the belt stays with Machida as from default of a s**ty non aggressor fight. At the end of the day. Machida's style kept Rua at bay. All Rua could land were leg kicks.

The only reason why people think Rua won is because of the s**tty commentator and Rua's corner. If you take the hint from someone here and watch it without the commentator you will see VERY clearly that nearly every attack by Rua is either countered or evaded by Machida, often with a counter punch to the head when Rua kicks. I would say that every round is very close except for round 3 in which Machida's flurry at the end clearly gives him that round. So either a) it is too close of the fight to give the belt to Rua or b) Machida wins by decision. Either way Machida is still champ.

Oh okay well MAYBE I WAS going a little overboard with the "fixed-fight" comment.

Like I said all along Rua would use kicks to break him down that is what caused Lyoto to be taken down. But good fight, who knows what'll happen next time.

First 2 rounds a draw...nobody really one them. Only a couple punches/kicks from either fighter that weren't countered weren't clean anyway. Last 3 rounds should have gone to Rua, no sober person should be able to see it any different. He was the confident agresor who landed the majority of the strikes that had a waaaaay higher percentage of being clean strikes. This fight makes me remember the first Evander Holyfield/Lennox Lewis fight where Lewis clearly dominated the majorty of the rounds only to lose by judges desicion...they had an immediate rematch too by the way and 3 DIFFERENT judges saw things right the next time.

Shogun Rua won the first and third rounds and the last 2 rounds. he used a good strategy of body and leg kicks like I said he should and did great. Lyoto didn't throw a lot of punches and his strikes were defended aganist very well. Sherdog has the score for rRua but Lyoto still won, dana said Shogun won the fight and the reamtach is set.

Just watched the post fight press conference, when Dana said that he thought shogun took rounds 1,4,and5. I thought the first round was very close,like all of them were, but machida deserved it because of the first few second of the fight. He fed Shogun like 4 knees to the body in the clinch and the rest of the round was close but the knees had to be the difference. The other and last point,if I may, is that everybody keeps talking about Shogun' body/leg kicks ,which were great and did damage, But there few times that he threw that kick and didn't eat counter straight right hand to the face. They weren't huge shots but they were still points.
I think if you take Joe Rogan' commentating(riding Rua' balls the whole fight)out of the picture and just watch the actual fight then I have to beleive that more people would see Machida winning.

the fight was okay. the only reason i believe machida won was because he probably landed more cleaner shots than rua although he didn't land extremely hard shots like rua. but rua landed the stronger shots but also he threw a lot of kicks and some punches that didn't land too. basically the first 3 rounds they were countering each other at the same time but one can argue that rua landed the better strikes. so maybe that's another reason. but don't know cause i've seen this happen many times in UFC where they have bad scoring like this fight. machida needs to change it up a little bit cause the whole fight he was doing the same thing. small flying knee to body, clinch, knee, a couple of punches. and so on. if rua wasn't soo afraid of his counter striking he would of been more aggressive than he was in the fight in my opinion. the fight should of been a draw instead of machida winning. you can argue both ways. but a rematch would probably settle the score.

Although I thought shogun was gonna win by a slight decision, neither of them stole that last round. If you want that belt you better steal that last round in a close fight like that. Joe Rogan was focused in on Shogun and his kicks the whole fight ignoring that each kick was paired with a faceplant punch by Machida. Its a relative to where you're looking Joe.

sorry guys but this was a close fight and joe was jumping on shogun's hits and kicks which most were great but machida had a couple of flurries and almost every hit connected and then
would say how shogun throwing back and would be one hit what makes it so hard is the last round were so diff...shogun but turn off commentary and it is very close lost last two for sure

What I think is this after watching the fight a second time. Machida landed more punches not all of them landed but some did, and Lyoto had good punch-kick combonations . Shogun was aggressive and landed way more kicks. I personally think the aggressiveness of Rua won him the fight, but you can make the argument that Lyoto won, but not unanimously. Shogun took rounds away from Lyoto and if anyone read my blog that i had wrote before this fight was annouced then you can see Shogun saw the same holes I saw. I wrote it in June, and it says exactly that.

And I don't like listening to Joe Rogan and Mike Golberg because Joe doesn't train or has ever fought MMA and mike Goldberg is an actor, overexaggerting ever win and fighter so...

That's why I like listening to Bas Rutten, or Randy, or Frank, some one who's fought in the big stage.
