Analizing G.S.P. vs Thiago Alves

This fight is gonna be a good'un!

First off past fights. When St.Pierre step in the Octogan against Karo Parisyan he looked a little nervous. Who wouldn't right? My take on his performance was that he was good not great. His technique on striking looked rudementionary. His hands didn't look as good, his kicks were okay, his wrestling took the fight to distance, and he powered out of countless submissions. Thiago looked good standing on his feet with Spencer Fisher, and then on the ground he got caught with a triangle. His stand up was nasty (in the good way), and there were some similarities between them. Both explosive, both nervous. Both of them bounced back to there debuts with better performances, St.Pierre vs Herion, Alves vs Chalangov (tko victories).

Now they look outstanding, they utilize their hips very well, Alves' kicks, St.Pierre's grappling. This could be a stand up war, and it's a toss up on who has the edge. GSP has the edge with wrestling but Thiago's takedown defense is scaring alot of people. He got away from Hughes and Koscheck and he may get away with it GSP. St.Pierre on the other hand has surprised us all with his greatly improving wrestling skills so who knows what'll happen.

Yet no fighter is perfect and they all have weaknesses. St.Pierre's weakness is his inabillity to withstand a brawl. That's how BJ Penn beat him in the first round of their match up and some one needs to catch those kicks and counter, Muay Thai fighters do it all the time, and Alves is an experinced Thai boxer.  Alves' weakness is when he is push back, he doesn't do well. Koscheck had him backing up with a few right hands and so did chris lytle, remember Chris won the first round of their fight and GSP is great at mixing it up and giving great angles.

All in all, flip a coin, I have no idea what's going to happen.
